Why Your Morning Skincare Routine Should Include Sunscreen SPF
Prevent Skin Damage and Premature Ageing By Wearing SPF Daily
As Winter approaches you might be thinking it's time to push the sunscreen to the back of the bathroom cupboard where it will be forgotten about until next summer...But, I am here to tell you why applying sunscreen with an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of 30 or more should be an essential part of your morning skincare routine, regardless of the weather outside.
Sunscreen protects your skin from the harmful effects of UV (Ultraviolet) rays, which can cause sunburn, premature ageing, and even skin cancer. Even on cloudy or overcast days, UV rays can penetrate the clouds and cause damage to your skin especially in New Zealand.
By incorporating sunscreen into your daily skincare routine, you can help prevent damage from UV rays and keep your skin looking youthful and healthy. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 and apply it to all exposed areas of skin, including your face, neck, and hands. Remember to reapply every two hours or more frequently if you are sweating or if you wash your face.

Morning Skin Routine with SPF
A good morning skincare routine is essential for maintaining healthy and glowing skin. Here's a basic routine that you can follow:
-
Cleanse: Start by cleansing your face with a gentle cleanser to remove any dirt, oil, or impurities from your skin. We recommend using one of Ethique's Cleanser Bars because they are made with beautiful ingredients, they are plastic free, made in NZ and last for ages.
-
Moisturise: Use a lightweight moisturiser to hydrate your skin and lock in moisture.
-
Sunscreen: Finish your routine with a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30. Apply it to all exposed skin, including your face, neck, and hands. You can then apply your makeup on top if you want to.
Tip: keep a 70g tin of Seasick Sunscreen on your bathroom counter. This is a great reminder to put sunscreen on first thing in the morning as part of your every day skincare routine.
Choose a mineral sunscreen made with non-nano zinc oxide
Incorporating sunscreen into your morning skincare routine is essential for protecting your skin from the harmful effects of UV rays and maintaining its health and appearance. However, not all sunscreens are created equally. Most conventional sunscreens are made with a long list of chemical UV filters such as oxybenzone and octocrylene. These chemicals can irritate sensitive skin, cause your eyes to sting when you swim or sweat and are also toxic to marine life in high concentrations (at popular snorkelling spots for example).
Seasick Sunscreen is different! It's made with non-nano zinc oxide which is a particle that sits on top of your skin, rather than being absorbed into your body like the chemical UV filters are. Worried about a white caste? Don't be! Our sunscreen has been specifically formulated to rub in well leaving very little or no white sheen on the skin.
I love your sunscreen! It's especially great for my daughter who has dark skin. It doesn't leave a sheen of a yucky purplish colour while it's obsorbing, like other sunscreens do. Amazing for dark skin. Highly recommend!!
